Sociopathic Artist Paints Lifelike Masks for People
So there is this video going around about an artist in Brazil that’s painting masks for people. The idea is the mask itself is painted to look exactly like your face, so you don’t feel such a sense of anonymity when walking around. Check out the video below, he does really good work.
This guy is obviously talented, but I think he’s also insane.
Yes, the pandemic / lockdown / quarantine has been bad for everyone. We’re about to hit 1.5 million deaths, with the cost to the world economy possibly reaching $16 trillion.
But let’s not act like it doesn’t have its upsides. Lots of people now get to work from home. No more fighting traffic, no having a boss constantly hovering over you, no getting dressed up just to sit in a cubicle all day. More people working from home (and people that unfortunately lost their jobs), means less cars on the road. Rush hour has gotten a lot better in most places.
But the greatest thing about the pandemic is the masks. Do you realize how freeing it is to walk right past someone you casually know, without them recognizing you? No more time wasted having to listen to someone’s boring life just because you happen to have a mutual friend. I haven’t gotten stuck in a grocery store conversation in months! Even if the person knows it’s you, as long as you have your mask on and show no recognition, there will be doubt in their mind. Here’s how I imagine that conversation going.
Person 1: Hey Kip! Kip!...He didn't even turn around. Person 2: Are you sure that's him? Maybe he has a brother? Person 1: No, I think he only has sisters. Maybe it was one of them? Person 2: Oh my god. You think that could have been a woman? (This is only funny if you know I'm a really thick boy)
And now this artist is going to ruin all of that. Just yank the power away from me. This must be what the Mafia felt like when they ended Prohibition. That’s why I called him a sociopath. He has no sympathy for the people that enjoy avoiding those pointless social interactions. Watch these masks catch on, pretty soon everyone will be doing it. And for the first time since COVID started, I’m worried.
